The 2013 PEN/Malamud Award
for Excellence in the Short Story

The PEN/Malamud Award Ceremony & Memorial Reading were established by Bernard Malamud’s family to honor excellence in the art of the short story. The 2013 recipient of the PEN/Malamud Award is George Saunders. The author will read from the Folger stage prior to the presentation of the award, and the evening will end with a book signing and reception in the Folger’s Great Hall.

MacArthur fellow George Saunders is the acclaimed author of several collections of short stories, including PastoraliaCivilWarLand in Bad DeclineIn Persuasion Nation, and Tenth of December, as well as a collection of essays and a book for children. He teaches in the creative writing program at Syracuse University.
