The PEN/Faulkner Foundation is pleased to announce that George Saunders will receive the 2013 PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story in an Award Ceremony & Reading held at the Folger Shakespeare Library.
George Saunders is the author most recently of the short story collection Tenth of December. His other works include the novella The Brief and Frightening Reign of Phil, and the story collections Pastoralia, CivilWarLand in Bad Decline, and In Persuasion Nation. Additionally, he is the author of an essay collection, The Braindead Megaphone and The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip, a New York Times children’s bestseller. He writes regularly for The New Yorker and Harper’s, as well as Esquire, GQ, and The New York Times Magazine. He has received a MacArthur Fellowship, World Fantasy Award for Best Short Fiction, and a Lannan Literary Fellowship, among many other honors and awards. He teaches at Syracuse University.
